Educatable’s mission is to show parents, in a step by step way, how to help their children thrive in reading, spelling, talking and writing.

We would do anything for our children to ensure that they have all the success and happiness in the world.

Being able to read and write is a big part of that, not only in the areas of jobs in the future, but their own mental health and self esteem can be impacted when they feel they cannot do them well.

As parents, when our children are not succeeding or progressing the way they should, we can become anxious and stressed, inadvertently making our children more anxious and stressed. Sometimes schools do not have the resources to help and it is important to get help as early as possible as the gap between a struggling reader and their peers can widen quickly.

Educatable’s mission is to show parents, in a step by step way, how to help their children thrive in reading, spelling , talking and writing. In addition to workshops, practical, easy to follow books on reading, spelling, language and writing will help parents feel confident to teach their children – whether they are struggling or those beginning their journey.

THIS BOOK IS INTENDED TO BE USED BY PARENTS OF TODDLERS RIGHT UP TO PARENTS OF GRADE 3 CHILDREN (AND HIGHER GRADES IF YOU HAVE A STRUGGLING READER).

In this book you will learn about all of the components needed to become a great reader and speller, why they are necessary, as well as activities and scripts to help teach your child these skills.

The end goal of reading, and therefore reading instruction, is comprehension. It is to get meaning from what we have read. To do this, children have to be able to read, or decode, the words as well as have the vocabulary and background knowledge to understand them.

JANELLE CURRY

Author and Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Who knew I could turn my love of talking into my career?!

I’ve always loved children too, and when deciding on which allied health stream to follow, it made sense to combine these two loves and become a speech therapist for kids.

Communication and literacy are fundamental human rights and I have been working with struggling readers and their families for over 20 years. I have witnessed the frustration, pain, self-doubt and the impact this has on their wellbeing. Reading is used in all areas of the curriculum at school. Children cannot escape it. My heart aches for the children who, day in and day out, have to turn up to a place where they feel out of place and awkward.  Which is why I do what I do.

When I help these children to become great readers, my heart sings.  I love witnessing their little faces glow when they can confidently read; their self-esteem skyrockets. But as much as I love helping each individual child, I want to make a bigger impact. How can I help these children BEFORE they start to struggle? How can I help MORE families? So EducatABLE was born.
